What happens to the clothes I don’t keep?

Nothing you edit out in a Get Rewardrobed session is thrown away. Resale-grade pieces are consigned, so you are paid when they sell, or you take store credit. Everything else becomes a documented donation with a receipt for your taxes.

The three lanes

Every piece that leaves your closet goes down one of three lanes, and you pick the lane. Consign it, and you are paid when it sells. Take store credit, and you have the value right away to spend in the Rewardrobed shop. Donate it, and you get a documented receipt for your taxes. You can mix lanes in one session, and you can decide at the session if you are not sure going in.

How consignment works

Resale-grade pieces are priced with you at the session, so you see the number before anything leaves. We then photograph, list, store, sell and ship them through the Rewardrobed shop, where every piece is one of one. You do nothing after the session. When a piece sells, you are paid your share at the consignor rate in your agreement.

Consignment is the lane that returns the most, and it is the slowest, because a piece sells when its buyer finds it. Designer pieces, current styles and anything still tagged tend to move first.

What counts as resale-grade?

Clean, current and in good condition, from a brand or a style that someone is looking for. That covers more than people expect: work wardrobes, occasion wear worn once, shoes and bags in good shape, and the tagged pieces that never made it into rotation. It does not cover worn-out basics, stained or damaged pieces, or styles with no second market, and we say so at the session rather than taking a piece we cannot sell.

Store credit instead of waiting

If you would rather not wait for a sale, take store credit at the session for the pieces we would otherwise consign. It is available right away in the Rewardrobed shop. Members earn more on credit: the Seasonal Membership adds 20 percent to the credit value of pulled pieces and the Quarterly Membership adds 25 percent.

Donation, documented

Everything that is not resale-grade becomes a donation, and we document it so you have a receipt for your taxes. You do not bag it, drive it anywhere or chase paperwork. Donated pieces are sorted and put back into circulation, and anything that turns out to be resale-worthy joins the shop so it is worn again instead of wasted. Donation pickup is free in the Charlotte metro, and there is a mail-in option for anywhere else, whether or not you book a reset.

What never happens

Nothing gets thrown out. Nothing leaves your home without your say. We do not pay cash for clothes and we do not buy wardrobes outright, because that is a pawn model, and ours is a circulation model: your pieces go back to work, and the value comes back to you as payout, credit or a write-off.

Questions people ask

Can I get cash instead of credit?

Not at the session. Consigned pieces pay you when they sell. If you want value right away, store credit is instant and is worth more to members. We do not buy wardrobes outright.

How long does consignment take to sell?

It varies by piece. Designer and tagged items can sell within days of listing, and more ordinary pieces take longer. Every piece is one of one, so it sells when its buyer finds it.

What if a piece does not sell?

We tell you, and you choose: take it back, move it to store credit, or let it go as a documented donation. Nothing is thrown out.

Can I consign without booking a reset?

Yes. Consignment and donation are open to anyone, by drop-off or mail-in. The reset is the fastest way to find the pieces worth consigning, but it is not required.

Is the donation receipt valid for taxes?

You get an itemized record of what you donated, dated and documented. How you claim it is between you and your tax preparer, and we are not tax advisors.

Do you sell my pieces under my name?

No. Pieces are listed by brand, size and description in the Rewardrobed shop. Your name is not shown to buyers.
